Advent by Candlelight kicks off season of preparation
On Monday evening, November 28, the Lebanon First UMC unit of the United Methodist Women hosted Advent by Candlelight with beautifully decorated tables, delicious cookies, stylish waiters, and an inspiring program. It was a fitting start to the 2011 Advent season, a four week period of preparation leading up to the celebration of Christmas.
Dee Hermanson, Anne Zimmerlee, Evelyn Gregory and Mary Renfro helped organize the evening. Members of the UMW and friends decorated and hosted tables of eight. Each table was replete with special seasonal decorations. Several men of the congregation served as waiters for the evening, bringing beverages and cookies to each table.
Pastor Wehrly led the group in prayer. Evelyn Gregory helped lead the singing of Joy to the World. Bob Homan and Jim Ferrall read selections from books by Max Lucado as the Christmas characters of Gabriel and Joseph. Special music was provided by Mariah McCaffery, a sophomore student at McKendree University from St. Petersburg FL, who sang a lovely rendition of Mary Did You Know?
More than 80 persons enjoyed the evening.
